What does rousseau mean when he says as soon as any man says of the affairs of the state, what does it matter to me, the state may be given up for lost?

    This reflects people only thinking about themselves rather than the country. Once people forsake the needs of their own country for individual interests, the country is lost and democracy does not make the country strong.
