There were a few similarities between the colonies such as their economies being based on single crop plantations, all colonies had slavery until 1750, it was expensive to build certain things like churches, hospitals and schools and so many colonies didn't have them all at once at the beginning. In addition, each practiced a form of religious tolerance and each had an atmosphere of aristocracy except for North Carolina.

North Carolina was considered one of the most democratic, Georgia was founded as a butter colony, Virginia was were the first representative government came to be, Maryland was the refuge for Catholics and South Carolina provided the busiest seaport of the south.
