The First Continental Congress was assembled in order to discuss the colonies' grievances with the British government. It was a response to a series of laws that had been passed in Britain called the Intolerable Acts by Americans, which took away some of the rights Massachusetts had enjoyed as a British colony. The congress met in order to decide how to respond to these laws.
