Where did thomas jefferson stand on what entity (national or state governments) should hold the bulk of political power?

    Jefferson respected the federal government, but he believed that the states should have most of the political power, especially the power to oversee and approve laws that affected their area. He ghost-wrote the Kentucky and Virginia Resolutions with James Madison. These pieces of state legislation state that the states should hold the power to void any federal legislation that they think is unconstitutional.
