Hi there! An aristocracy is a government system where the richest people hold office. When a city state is governed by an aristocracy, it is governed by aristocrats and wealthy people that have lots of power, with a prestigious title. In Ancient Greece, the aristocrat leaders had lots of power and put out strict rules for the people. It may not be commonly used as a form of government today, but there are still countries like Britain and France that have aristocrats.
