The two men who broke with the Catholic Church were John Calvin and Martin Luther.

Until the early years of 1500’s, all the religious matters of the Christian Western Europe were decided by the Roman Catholic Church. However, a few Christians started to protest against the Roman Catholic Church’s practices.

They broke off from the church for reformation and formed a branch of Christianity, which is now known as the Protestant community.

The Protestant Reformation was a religious movement started by Martin Luther in 1517 and was continued by John Calvin and others in the 16th century in Europe.
