Hi there! The Indian Removal Act was signed by then-president Andrew Jackson. The Native Americans were pushed off their land, so that the U. S. could gain more land. At that time, the U. S. was an expanding country, which bought territories ruled by other countries. It was a very controversial act that had lots of mixed opinions. It was very hard for the Native Americans, as many died from them moving West.
