Why was the Virginia Company founded

To establish permanent colonies in the America that would generate profits.

The goal of the Virginia Company was basically to establish a permanent colony in America that would make a profit for the Company. The company, chartered by King James I in April, 1606 comprised of two joint stock companies. The companies however failed in 1624.
