Mannerism was the artistic style until the late sixteenth century, part of the Renaissance. Its characterization is the imitation of the Mannerism of the great masters of the High Renaissance that represented classicist beauty in the formal and conceptual aspects. It was an intellectual art and stylist, known as an extension of the art of the great geniuses of the High Renaissance. It was also an extravagant, decadent and degenerative style whose works were not appreciated before its revaluation The Baroque was an artistic style in Western culture that had several representations in literature, architecture, sculpture, painting, music, opera, dance, theater, and others. It originated in Western Europe and in numerous European colonies in Latin America. Its main characteristics were the tenebrism, contrasts between light and darkness with shadows and drama in the works with effects of intense emotions. Both styles were opponents in the existing period of these artistic currents.
