The more significant accomplishment to the Ottoman Empire is those of Selim the Grim's. Selim I was given the name Selim the Grim since he killed almost all his relatives. Among his achievements were the capture of Medina, Mecca, and Cairo. It is considered a notable contribution since Mecca and Medina are the holiest cities in Islam while Cairo was an intellectual hub for Muslims. Through this, he was able to significantly expand the Ottoman Empire.
