    It worsened it. That is because it was only a temporary solution for slavery. When it was established that Arkansas would be a slave territory, it led to the people in Texas wanting to join as a slave state, and Texas belonged to New Spain, that is Mexico, and since it was south of the slave border, then it would be a slave state if US won and Mexico didn't want this.
