What was the domestic impact of the anti-communist crusade of the late 1940's and 1950's?

Money and jobs were prepared to fight communism. The people accused of rebellion were blacklisted, the diversion of national attention away from the issues of Social welfare and support of civil liberties in US were decreased.

During that era, it made the American citizens paranoid about any politician in politics or policy that recommend any form of socialism. For example, the universal free healthcare because Americans compare socialism with communism for some reason. A democratic governing body of a nation with financier economic systems can have progressive policies without any way of being a threat to freedom or democracy and won’t have a communist.
