As a citizen of the United States in 1823, how could the Monroe Doctrine provide you with a sense of optimism regarding your country's position in the world?

The Monroe Doctrine opposed European colonialism in America. America was putting it’s foot down to separate itself from Europe. This would give United States citizens optimism in the fact that this doctrine implies than the United States can stand on its own.
