The immigrant group that was primarily Presbyterian was the Scotch - Irish immigrants. They did much to make its presence strong especially in Philadelphia. Hence the rise of the first presbytery in 1706, named the Presbytery of Philadelphia. It aimed to promote discipline and fellowship among members which later on developed into a governing body.
