    It was a covert CIA funded operation aimed at overthrowing communist regime in Cuba. The group made of mostly Cuban exiles was defeated by the Cuban Revolutionary Armed Forces.

    The victory strengthened Fidel Castro's leadership and entrenched the perception of US as the enemy plotting against the communist revolution.
