Why does Vanderbilt become involved in railroads?

    Vanderbilt became involved in Railroad as soon as he acquired Harlem because he wanted to show that he could take railroads which were worthless and make them valuable. The Harlem railroad which he acquired first had a key advantage in that it was the only steam railroad to enter the center of Manhattan.
