    Mexican Americans living in New Mexico had no representatives in Washington, D. C. to protect their interest for many reasons. One reason was due to their population. Mexican Americans were a minority in New Mexico. Also, New mexico was not a state, it was a territory. Another reason that did not have representation was because the federal government did not have any land in New Mexico, therefor had no interest.
