A number of forces undermined the power of the Qing Dynasty over the course of the 19th Century. Foremost, the Qing dynasty was marred with caprices of corruption. Moreover, the Opium war against Britain greatly derailed them. The Qing Dynasty also declined due to the numerous uprisings and rebellions such as the Taiping Rebellion.
