What was the united states like during the united states during the late 1800's to early 1900's?

During the late 1800's to early 1900's the United States was "civil unrest" much like it is today in 2017. Many minority groups are still fighting to have a piece of the American pie. The government couldn't agree on reforms that needed to be implemented. A sense of well being allowed the middle class to address problems of social and economic reform.
