    According to the Office of the Historian of the US State Department, the experience of tragic losses of American lives in World War I, combined with the domestic struggles of the Great Depression, had Americans in an isolationist mood in the 1930s. It was not until the US itself was attacked at Pearl Harbor in 1941 that America was ready to enter another war.
