Some people wanted the slavery in the south to end meanwhile some didn't but at the same time the north which was not having this problem wanted everyone together as a nation. In fact, the south was divided into two factions those that needed to split far from the rest on account of slave laws. The Northern states attempted to keep the south to remain.

Horwitz historical interpretation in civil war is similar to classic Evil vs good stories that focused on slavery and emancipation, with the north on the good side and the south on the abd side.

Mcpherson on the other hand, believe that the Southern chose to go to the war because their Comfort was threatened by the economic impact that slavery would cause to their economy.
