How did the rail industry impact the city of Fort Worth?

As someone who lived in the great state of Texas for a time, I love this question! The rivers in Texas weren't great for steamboat navigation back in the days of settlement and development. They weren't deep enough and in dry seasons navigating by boat would be even more of a problem. Roads weren't great either and various weather conditions could make it so you couldn't use them (too muddy when heavy rains hit, for instance). So getting railroads built made a huge impact on the ability to travel and trade throughout Texas. Fort Worth was part of this effort to connect cities by railways. Railroads first arrived in Forth Worth in 1876. Not too long after that, the Fort Worth and Denver City Railway Company connected Fort Worth to the Texas/New Mexico border. In 1905, the Colorado and Southern Railway Company bought land to connect Fort Worth to Houston and Galveston on the coast of the Gulf of Mexico. Obviously that had a huge impact, to connect the key shipping port area of the state to the Dallas-Fort Worth area. So yeah, the railroad really brought progress to Fort Worth and the rest of Texas.
