    1 European competition for Africa led to the partition and scramble for Africa which divided the continent into spheres of interests. This division separated families, homes and communities.

The treaty of Versailles that established the league of nation and outlined the war guilty verdict which punished Germany and imposed a heavy fine culminated in the hostility that ensued especially because of its ineffectiveness in regard to the league of nation and the economic misery of Germany which led to the rise of fascist regimes.
