    Voltaire was a French enlightenment thinker, philosopher and writer who advocated freedom of speech.

    Voltaire is also well known for his theory of social contract which questions the origins of society and the authority the government and state have on members of society. Voltaire was a major proponent of social liberalism and freedom.
