Why did some hmong migrate to southeast asia in the mid-nineteenth century?

    They had hoped to escape the influence of European invaders coming from England and France. Also they needed to escape attempts by the Chinese to contain, assimilate, or destroy their way of life or lives. They wanted to settle in more fertile land to the south of China.
