What was one major reason for the conflict between Rome and Carthage?

    It would be the conflict in Sicily between Hiero II of Syracuse and the Mamertines of Messina that engulfed the two ancient superpowers into a large scale conflict that would decide the future of Mediterranean of which of the two would rule it. It would also because of the tension between the two of which would be the superior lord of the Mediterranean sea.
