What is the difference between capitalism, or the free enterprise system, and mercantilism?

    Mercantilism was a system of economic strategy that tried to strengthen domestic economic strength by increasing exports and reducing imports. Free Enterprise was a much more liberal system of economy where states, rather than seeing economy as a competition, saw trade as a mutually beneficial agreement.
