Darius the Great or Darius I was responsible for constructing the Royal Road and for reorganizing the empire into the provinces. He reconstructed the road in 5th Century BCE to make communication much more quicker through the very large empire. The Royal Road took 7 days to travel from one end of the empire to the other. Before the Royal Road was constructed, it took 90 days to travel.
