    President Eisenhower sent assistance to South Vietnam due to his fear of communism spreading in Southeast Asia.

    During his presidency, Eisenhower wanted to make sure that communism did not spread from North Vietnam to South Vietnam. To avoid this, he sent troops to train the South Vietnamese army on proper military tactics and strategies. This group was known as the Military Assistance Advisory Group.
