The earth is tilted at an angle of 23.5 degrees in relation ti its orbital plane. The orbital plane is the plane of earth's orbit around the sun. The tilt of the axis is also referred to as its obliquity. The tilt in the angle is responsible for seasons as is turns hemispheres away from or towards the sun at different times of the year.
