While Manifest Destiny, and the westward expansion of the United States, is most closely linked with transactions such as the Louisiana purchase in the early 19th century, the idea of persisted into the end of the century and was continuously used as justification for the continued development of the western states, domination of the Native American peoples, and persistent conflicts with Mexico.
