The goal of the Montgomery bus boycott was to protest racial segregation on public transport. In December 1955 an African American woman Rosa Parks was arrested for refusing to give up her seat to a white person. Shortly after this incident, the protest began as a civil rights movement and it lasted for a year until December 1956, when the United States supreme court ruled it was unconstitutional to have racially segregated buses.
