How did the federal government change after the civil war answers com?

The federal government added multiple amendments to the US Constitution after the Civil War. They did this in hopes of creating an American society in which newly freed slaves were given more political and social rights. Two perfect examples of this include the 14th and 15th amendment.

The 14th amendment states that individuals born on American soil are American citizens. These citizens are entitled to the same rights/responsibilities as all other citizens. This is supposed to ensure that African-Americans get the same legal and social treatment as white citizens.

The 15th amendment states that a person cannot be stopped from voting based on their race, color, or past servitude. This makes it illegal to stop African-Americans from voting based on their race and based on the fact that they used to be a slave.
