Brazil was the last country to abolish slavery 130 years ago in 1888. The main export of Brazil from 1600 to 1650 was sugar and the sugar industry depended upon slave labor for their existence. Approximately 4.9 million slaves were brought to Brazil from Africa between 1501 to 1866.
