During the 15th century, the Europeans wanted to bring Christianity to the East and new areas and to expand their trading routes. They also sought to bring the rise of colonial empires and trading to Europe, Asia, Africa, and the New World. It was the age of discovery. Europe began sending out ships, and in 1492 Columbus was sent by Portugal to go find a new route to India. But he found Hispaniola and the Bahamas instead. Which started the Columbian Exchange. Slaves, plants, animals, and foods were sent back with half the crew.
