The E-site of a ribosome is the last spot in the ribosome where the tRNA binds to during protein synthesis. Because it is the last binding place before the tRNA exits the ribosome, it is called E-site. E stands for exit.

There are other two sites - the P-site and the A-site. All this are involved in protein synthesis.
