What was the result of the assault on Fort Wagner by the African American soldiers of the union's 54th Massachusetts Regiment?

In July 18, 1863, a Union regiment of free African Americanmen that the 54th Massachusetts Regiment began their assault on Fort Wagner, but this action upon Fort Wagner led the soldiers of union to a failure. Even though operation was not successful, the regiment earned respect for its bravery in action.
