Queen Isabella, who was queen of Spain, was motivated to support Columbus' first voyage west because she was eager to find a faster and cheaper route to the Indies.

Therefore, she agreed to pay for Columbus' expedition to the Americas in 1492.

It is also good to know that Columbus did a second voyage with the aim of starting a colony and bringing benefits to Spain.
