How do American actions in Texas and California extend the idea of the Manifest Destiny?

The idea of Manifest Destiny was about connecting the two coasts. It was about having the United States of America spread from east to west, all the way. In order to do that, they would have to take Texas and California from Mexico, which is what they did. Texas was taken politically, more or less, while California was won in a war.
