Who attempted to build panama canal, but there were too many problems: the chagres river had lots of rain, floods, and engulfed equipment, the workers got sick with yellow fever and malaria, and landslides were frequent, worked for 6 years with little progress. the main issue was money ran out so they had to abandon the project by 1889?
