Grady was an editor and journalist for the Atlanta Constitution and he used his influence and his position to promote and and popularize the causes he wanted. He promoted the industrial growth of the South and the investment programs from the North. He also promoted the changes to the farming system and the dominance of the whites as he believed they had to have control over free blacks. He is the one who coined the term "New South".
