The Mexican war of independence had impacts on territorial expansion into Texas.

after gaining independence from Spain, the Mexican adopted a liberal constitution that banned slavery. Texas at the time was underpopulated and hence the Mexicans invited Anglo-Catholics to settle there. however, protestant Americans rushed to the area, carrying with them, slaves as well. this sparked conflicts with Mexico, and the subsequent Texas war of independence from Mexico and subsequently unification with USA.
