What steps were taken during Reconstruction to rebuild the South and preserve the rights of African Americans

    New amendments were introduced to allow African-Americans to vote and to protect their liberty. They were also allowed to have real jobs and own property. Many laws were also added to prevent racist policies, but the Southerners found a way how to obstruct the reconstruction.
