Why did the afl succeed, while the knights of labor disappeared by the end of the 19c?

the AFL succeeded while the Knights of Labor disappeared in the end of 19c due to the fact that the Knights were very loosely organized and did not have much centralization. They had very vague goals and it prevented them from remaining competitive.
