Dred Scott was a slave who sued for his freedom. His owner brought him to a free state. Therefore Dred Scott was a on free land making him free. Chief Justice, Roger B. Taney ruled against Dred Scott saying that he was property and not a citizen. The South now felt that they could now bring their slaves to any free soil. The North was man and said that it was a Southern conspiracy. I hope this answers your question!
