The USA lost the perpetual war in south Vietnam.

the withdrawal announced by Nixon was simply a loss, hidden in victory as it allowed the American to leave the country without the North Vietnamese and Vietcong having to live and eventually they left, later the south was taken over by the Northern forces. In addition the oil driven economy was not doing very well and needed to be fixed.
