For what puopose did major call the meeting of the animals?

    Major called for a meeting because he said that he had a vision of better times and that they could live better without people to rule over them. He believed that animals should rule themselves. His vision is explained by the idea that he believed that he was going to die. What followed this was a long debate over whether or not rats would be considered comrades.
