What attitudes did white soldiers have about the 54th? did these attitudes change and why? from glory?

    They were apprehensive. They remained faithful to their country even given the circumstances, because they wanted to win the war and restore the Union.

    To add, the Union referred to the United States of America and specifically to the national government of president Abraham Lincoln and the 20 free states and 5 border states that supported it.
