Lincoln believed that god is absolute and almighty and created both the institution of slavery and those who would oppose it. He believed that it was a way to test people and that he could've ended the institution easily and quickly if he wanted, but that the war was there with numerous lives lost in order to punish people from not stopping slavery even before it began.
