Caused blockades and attacks on US shipping: The Napoleonic Wars were happening in Europe and in an effort to hurt each other, they placed blockades on shipping which hurt US trade.

In attacks on US shipping, the British fired on US ships and impressed the men (meaning they took them into the British navy). US ships were not able to access European markets to buy or sell which stopped the US economy.
